Stepping into another persons shoes.....

Very, very often during the last few years I’ve questioned the validity of my adventures in
consciousness, at times pondering if I was not just becoming a nutcase,
believing things that would in yet another speck of existence get me
into a asylum. I've often pondered how so called "channeling" works, I rather call these kind of explorations "improvisations in consciousness" that term suits my own explorations better. My dreamexperiences are giving me my own answers to that question.....and suprisingly waking-state movies help me to describe these experiences to other people. I've had a particular form of lucid dreams that I will call "peeking along"dreams. Dreams where I literally step into the shoes of another.

The movie Being John Malkovich depicts what happens in those dreams so exactly that I was totally flabbergasted while watching it. In that particular movie, the script written by the creative Charlie Kaufman, people “peek along” with actor John Malkovich. Luckily my adventures never end being ditched at the side of some road in the middle of nowhere and I don't have to crawl through strange doorways in even more bizarre floors to peek along as is depicted in the movie.   Somehow many of Charlie Kaufman’s scripts and the interpretations given by different
directors (in this case Spike Jonze, in the case of Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind ,Michel Gondry) depict situations as how I experience them in the lucid dream
state more clearly than any work of art ever did to my opinion.

I find myself “inside”the body of another, my consciousness fully there, along with the perspective of this individual. This individual does not have to be aware of my consciousness while I peek along. I hear both the thoughts of this person and mine, mine are not interfering, the person is
simply not picking up on them. Image

What is most important during those dreams is that:
1) I have my own conscious awareness
2) I can observe the persons thoughts
3) I can observe my own
4) I can observe myself observing my own thoughts
5) And most importantly: I know that I am “really”there, that I am real at that moment, peeking along even though my presence might not be noticed by that other person.

That last one is very important. I think that when you channel, the only difference with
the dream situation is, that the one who channels is aware of that “other”
personality structure who peeks along, this other “layer” within self, (another common term is aspect) and that you
when you channel allow that person to speak or to write or whatever form
your “channeling” takes.

I think it could also happen that this “other”, who I feel is very intimately connected with who you are, closely related to your own personality structure or there would not be
enough overlap to be in communication, is unaware of the fact that he
peeks along through your eyes.

I think this happens very often to all of us in the dreamstate. And then off course you have the spontaneous happenings of these
communications (I think this happens frequently and with every
individual on the planet) where you are influencing another aspect of
yourself, without even being consciously aware of doing so, just as you
are influenced yourself by other aspects. I mean: how many layers are
there that we are not aware of, that are happening simultaneously with
our own perspective? Many I bet!

What is most important is that in such a dream I am aware of my own validity. I
know that I am real, I know that I am conscious in that situation,
that I am “real” whether the person in question is aware of me or not. I am there, and my presence did not do any harm whatsoever , we can co-exist at that location, together without taking up any more space. I am at such a moment just my consciousness... without a body. I was often unaware of Defrene’s or Yosef’s presence (aspects of me who like to peek along with me at times), later on I became aware of it, but questioned myself can that really be? Now I experienced how it is to be in their position, at least I recalled such experiences, as I said I feel that everyone has these experiences very often but forget them and I mean hey! I can’t deny that I was as real as real can be, just as I am aware and conscious now, so why won’t they be real and valid?

There is still a lot to be explored on the topic of how Defrene for  instance is related to me, I still like Jane’s/Seth’s perspective on that: Seth being a probable development of
Jane, seen from her perspective, different than Jane will ever become,
but in that way having the same roots. More on this later! I will describe my latest "peek along"dreams in the next blogpost that I will write when time allows :-)

Pleased to meet you too Eldon!

I have periods where I have lots of lucid dreams and then periods where I don't have them so often. When I want to have them I simply give myself the suggestion: I will have a lucid dream. What I sometimes do is imagining myself "getting up"while I'm laying in my bed without actually doing so physically. Most often though I get into a lucid dream from within the dreamstate where I notice something peculiar or suddenly realise: hey I'm dreaming.
What is essential for me to have lucid dreams is to be alert and awake and in the now during my waking state. For if I don't pay attention to the moment in the waking state, how can I expect myself to do so in the dreamstate? I sometimes tell myself during the day: What if I am dreaming right now, what would I like to explore? this changes my focus and brings me into the present moment.

I really like one technique that Stephen LaBerge described in one of his books. You test during the day if you are dreaming yes or no by looking at a piece of text and then looking away from it then you look at it again and when it didn't change, you know you are not dreaming. You check this many times during the day (its very simple, for there is text around us everywhere and it is very simple and quick to do) the thought behind this is that you will also keep doing this habbit in the dreamstate.

I find reading about lucid dreaming works very well too, for it inspires me to want to do it again and then naturally my body will respond to this. I love the book on projection by Jane. But there are also others that are interesting as well, I like Robert Waggoners book on lucid dreams, Laberge's one is also good I think and Rich Kendall gave me a book of a friend of his as a gift called; Soul Sight: projections of Consciousness and out of body epiphanies by Mary Barton that inspired me also to get more lucid dreams by just reading it. You can buy it on Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/product/po...es/6100328

One day I hope to find the time to write a book on my own experiences myself, for the moment I will share my findings in this blog :-)

Related to the dreaming part - do you have lots of lucid dreams? What do you do to produce them? I am working on obe and lucidity, so would like to hear any techniques. I too am a writer. Pleased to meet you.

Hi Jeff,
I think it is a combination of both, both my counterparts and other personalities of my entity, I think there are always links between all of us. You could compare it to facebook, that once there is an affilation between you and one of your friends that you can always reach one another through these connections but also reach other people through these "friends". That means that you can also reach parts that are not directly linked but indirectly. I think it is easier to reach your counterparts/other personalities of my entity than it is to reach those that are psychologically "further away" although I think it is never impossible. It just takes a certain amount of concentration and an open mind.

I"m not sure if my personality has set goals or even if there are "true"goals to speak of, but I do derive lots of value from these exercises, although I don't call them that :-)

I can relate to others better and that I can use these experiences as a mirror to who I am right now. Look into that mirror and see what I can apply from it in my own life. every experience is linked to where I am right now I think. I once compared it to the radio in a car. A radio can only pick up those stations that are within its own area. Much like how Jane was able to pick up the worldviewbooks through a shared interest.....
At times it really helped me to relate to the ex-husband of a friend of mine. I was not able to relate to his feelings untill after I had such a peek along dream where I peeked along with another, set in a totally different timeframe (1600 something like that) but with the same sentiments. The man I peeked along with was in a relationship that didn't work for him and he tried to escape much in the same way as the ex-husband of my friend did. But because in this dream I felt it from the inside out...I was able to for the first time, relate to his side of the story as well. And then not from a theoretical viewpoint, but from an experienced one....quite the difference I tell you.

I shared the dream with my friend and she was also able to relate to his feelings better because it was clothed in different chlothing. She could see it more from a distance. Much the effect that movies can have as well, where themes that are hard to face, can be faced better for it is "fiction".

It also helps me to write stories...and to make them psychologically interesting. I love to write and plan to write novels based on these peeking-along dream adventures. It helps me to explore the different characters and it helps me to discover more about my own personality, my own beliefs, especially when I am able to step away from my own beliefs, taking on, even for a brief moment, other beliefs and see how they suit me.

I studied dramatherapy and during my work with people, people do much the same thing, they improvise (using theatre) and try on different situations, different behavior and through that are able to explore new pathways for themselves, freely and safely in their own pace.

Exploring others versus your own entity?

Very nice blog! Do you believe that you are predominately exploring other personalities thoughts or do you believe these are your own counterparts and other personalities of your entity?

Do you believe it is one of your personalities true goals to explore others thoughts and what value do you derive from these exercises?
