TOPIC: Jane and Smoking

Re:Jane and Smoking 2 years, 1 month ago #2136

Hi All,
Jane believed that smoking was like a vitamin for her.I think that she enjoyed smoking very much, and it helped her to dispel peoples expectations of her being some new age white robed "spiritual type" of person.Listen to Sumari or Seth coming through her and you will be impressed with the state of her voice & lungs. I am not saying that smoking is good for you but if your beliefs about cigarettes are positive, than they will not be able to "harm" you. There was so much smoke in her living room that you might as well have been smoking.

Peace & Cheers
Lawrence

Thanks Lawrence. It must have been an amazing experience to have been among Jane's students! I started smoking out of rebellion against authority, and then later, for acceptance from my peers. I am old enough to have moved beyond all of that, but can't seem to move beyond smoking. I do enjoy smoking, but I don't control it, it controls me! I have been thinking of trying e-cigarettes. When I try to quit, the trigger to my falling off the wagon, is smelling someone else's smoke! I'm also tired of coughing, and it just seems like time to let it go. I'm workin on it!

Hi Cynthia: I think Seth gave all kinds of practical suggestions, ones that can be used to change any aspect of one`s behaviour. I`ve listed some below. The `truth` perhaps is that tobacco isn`t bad for your health. What IS bad for your health is the belief that tobacco is bad for your health. Among Native Peoples tobacco is considered a medicine, a sacred plant, and the smoke from burning tobacco brought messages to the Creator. Among the People it is said that when one is smoking - even a cigarette, one should be aware of their thoughts, ideas and prayers because all of them are traveling on that sacred smoke to the ear of the Creator and the Creator is offering full attention to those thoughts, wishes, ideas...

I don`t smoke, and never have. I did smoke in ceremony for a time, but that`s a whole other subject and we won`t go into that here. What I`d suggest is that you look at your beliefs about cigarettes, about smoking, about the whole idea of smoking, addiction, narcotics, control, need, desire, etc. Make yourself a list, starting each sentence with Ì believe:`` Don`t should on yourself when it comes to your beliefs. You don`t want to scare them away, you want to bring them out of your subconscious, so simply accept them. Look at them in the hard light of day and then decide which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to change. This is also worth reading:

Love,
Mike.

P.S. A man I once knew had quit smoking a long time before we met. He told me that he used to smoke a lot and one day as he was driving down the road he was fishing in the glove compartment of his pickup for another pack of smokes... when he pulled them out he said to himself, ``Surely I`m man enough to quit for today.`` He threw the pack out the window. Every time he wanted a cigarette after that he`d give himself that message, and he`d continued to quit for one day, for 25 years.

“Some of you are simply mentally lazy. You do not consciously examine the data that you receive. Many who make a practice of ‘denying’ negative suggestions from others, asserting positive affirmations instead, actually do so because they are so fully convinced that the power of negative beliefs is stronger than that of beneficial ones.

“Each of you will find habitual thought patterns in your own life backed up by resulting action – conditioned behavior as it were – by which you continually reinforce negative aspects, concentrate upon them to the exclusion of conflicting data, and so bring them into experience through natural hypnosis” ~ The Nature of Personal Reality, session 658.

“Later I will attempt to show you where the boundaries are – though (with a laugh) there really are no boundaries – that form a variety of such planes [realities] into a sphere of relation in which, to some extent, cause-and-effect operates as you understand it. Beyond that for a long time there will be no need for me to go any more deeply. I will speak of the entity, the personalities, the reincarnations, the diverse personality fragment groupings, the planes with which you are similar or can understand, and ultimately try to deal with your questions, implied if not spoken, as to where entities came from to begin with.

“... Needless to say, I wanted you to know that there is much more than even this, complexities that are truly astounding, intelligences that operate in what I suppose you would call a gestalt fashion, building blocks of vitalities of truly unbelievable maturity, awareness, and comprehension. These are the near ultimate [as I understand such things].
“This material should not make you feel unimportant or insignificant. The framework is so woven that each particle [of consciousness] is dependent upon every other. The strength of one adds to the strength of all. The weakness of one weakens the whole. The energy of one recreates the whole. The striving of one increases the potentiality of everything that is, and this places great responsibility upon every consciousness.

“I would even advise a double reading of the above sentence, for it is a keystone, and a vital one. Rising to challenges is a basis for existence in every aspect of existence. It is the developer of all abilities, and at the risk of being trite, it is the responsibility of even the most minute particle of consciousness to use its own abilities, and all of its abilities, to the utmost. Upon the degree to which this is done rests the power and coherence of everything that is.” ~ The Early sessions: Book 1 of the Seth Material, session 29.

“... there is a period of stress in between beliefs, so to speak, while you dispense with one set and are learning to use another.

“But here you become involved with one of the most meaningful aspects of the nature of personal reality, as you test your thoughts against what seems to be. There may be a time before you learn how to change your thoughts effectively, but you are engaged in a basic meaningful endeavor.

“The truth is then that you form your reality directly. You react consciously and unconsciously to your beliefs. You collect from the physical universe, and the interior one, data that seems to correlate with your beliefs.

“If you want to change the world for the better, then you are an idealist. If you want to change the world for the better, but you believe it cannot be changed one whit, then you are a pessimist, and your idealism will only haunt you. If you want to change the world for the better, but you believe that it will grow worse, despite everyone’s efforts, then you are a truly despondent, perhaps misguided idealist. If you want to change the world for the better, and if you are determined to do so, no matter at what cost to yourself or other, no matter what the risk, and if you believe that those ends justify any means at your disposal, then you are a fanatic.” ~ The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events, session 850.

``[Questioning your origins] leads you back into yourself and to a recognition of your own abilities. What you now create unconsciously your species will create consciously. The infinite abilities of consciousness become individualized, focused into a particular reality which then becomes expanded. Your own temporal creations add to the abilities with which you made them. You learn through your creations. Mind, as physically directed, utilizes the greatest sources of power and energy along with unlimited aspects of creativity, so that each physical day is indeed absolutely unique. You cannot expect any portion of your environment to remain static, therefore, and the condition of your body is constantly in a state of flux and change.'' ~ The Nature of Personal Reality, session 663.

“Objects are the symbols.

“You usually think of them simply as realities. You think of thoughts, images, and dreams sometimes as being symbolic of other things, but the truth is that physical objects are themselves symbols. They are the exterior symbols that stand for inner experience.

“There are, therefore, mass physical symbols upon which you all agree, as well as private, personal symbols. The whole nature and structure of physical life as you know it, is a symbolic statement made by groups of entities who choose to work with physical symbolism. So the body is a symbol for what you are, or what you think you are—and these may be two different things indeed.

“Any physical ailment is symbolic of an inner reality or statement. Your entire life is a statement in physical terms, written upon time as you understand it.

“Once you understand the symbolic nature of physical reality, then you will no longer feel entrapped by it. You have formed the symbols, and therefore you can change them. You must learn, of course, what the various symbols mean in your own life, and how to translate their meaning.

“To do so, you must first of all remind yourself frequently that the physical condition is symbolic—not a permanent condition. Then you must look within yourself for the inner actuality represented by the symbol. This same process can be followed regardless of the nature of the problem, or of your challenge.” ~ Seth Speaks, session 594.

“You must realize that any idea you accept as truth is a belief that you hold. You must, then, take the next step and say, ‘It is not necessarily true even though I believe it.’ You will, I hope, learn to disregard all beliefs that imply basic limitations.” ~ The Nature of Personal Reality, session 614.

Wow, Mike! Thanks for taking the time to post so much info. I just recieved NOPR for Christmas, and have just started reading it. I have always believed that smoke carries your thoughts and prayers, and also fire. I am a bit of a pyromaniac(though not an arsonist), obsessed with smoke and fire, which is one reason it's hard to quit. I was made an honorary member of the local tribal council, and was their ceremonial fire-keeper, and member of their dance group, among other things, for several years. I LOVE the smell of burning sage! I learned to choose my thoughts wisely after reading Seth Speaks, though I still stumble at times! You've given me much to contemplate!

I agree Lawrence that your conscious beliefs R certainly the heart of the matter with anything health related. I smoked for about 8 years in my 20s and early 30s. I quit in 2002 and have not smoked since save the rare smoke during times of stress (about 20 cigarettes in the last 8 years). I loved smoking too & I think Jane did as well for sure. I admired her a great deal for her character & her insight about people. I started smoking for psychological reasons I suppose. I am orally fixated in a way & I liked the feeling of it. For me though what made me quit was it made my body feel sluggish. I couldn't jog or work out normally without feeling like the smoking was bothering me a lot just physically so I quit. It also fogged up my psychic channels. I've often been astounded that Seth could come through at all with Jane smoking. That must be how powerful their connection was and is!
